“Regardless of whether you’re in Hollywood or Vermont, a creative host can bring the excitement and glamour of Oscar night right into their living room,” said Celebrity Chef Jon Ashton, Cabot’s Chef-of-Staff. “Roll out the red carpet for your friends this year with Oscar themed dishes, attire, and atmosphere.” Runner-up only to the Oscar show itself, a themed menu is the centerpiece of a fabulous Oscar party. Celebrate this year’s nominations with a “Cowboy Casserole” chock full of sausage, potato and Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar, or a “Hustle and Flow Habanera Flatbread” starring chicken, roasted red peppers and Cabot Habanero Cheddar. For a fancier evening, try “Fillet of Beef with Capote Tomato Compote” or “Corn-stant Gardner Fritters.” These recipes, the “Wok the Lime” recipe, and more Oscar themed dishes can be found online at www.cabotcheese.com/recipes. Even a simple tray of cheese and crackers can be made appropriate an Oscar gala by selecting Cabot cheeses, winners of every major award for taste, including “World’s Best Cheddar.” While Cabot has yet to win the Academy’s lifetime achievement award, for over half a century Cabot cheddars have represented the best in direction by the cooperative’s farm family owners, and the best in production by its talented cheesemakers. Once the menu is planned, have fun creating an atmosphere that makes guests feel as though they’ve just entered Kodak Theater. Cabot’s top tips include: -Use red carpet remnants or a roll of red construction paper to lead up to your door, or to the TV room. -Encourage “dress to impress” attire with awards for Best Dressed, Worst Dressed, Best Wardrobe Malfunction, and others. -Ask your local video store for leftover movie posters and hang them around your home. -Provide disposable “Paparazzi” cameras and snap pictures of guests as they arrive. -Serve Oscar themed food and drinks. -Create trivia cards with questions and answers using past years’ Oscar winners -Provide guests with a ballot for guessing winners prior to the show (downloadable Oscar ballots are available online at www.oscar.com/nominees/ballot) and present an “Oscar” to the person who gets the most right. The presentation of the 2006 Oscars at the 78th Annual Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2006 in Beverly Hills, California and will air nationally on ABC. A 1994 culinary graduate of St. Helens College in Great Britain, British born celebrity chef Jon Ashton applied his culinary magic in several lavish UK restaurants before moving to the U.S., where he took his technique and personality to the airwaves. As Cabot’s “Chef-of-Staff”, Jon’s mission is to show audiences how good food is easy to prepare, and how much fun it can be making it. For more information, please visit www.jonashton.com. Cabot Creamery has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919 and is owned by the dairy farm families of Agri-Mark, the Northeast’s premier dairy cooperative. Cabot makes a full line of cheeses and other dairy products, including “the World’s Best Cheddar” as judged at the 22nd Biennial World Championship Cheese Contest. Cabot cheddar has also twice been honored with the “Outstanding Classic” award at the International Fancy Food and Confection Show (photo at right).
