World Premiere of The Cabot Chakra Window in Portland
Maine Artist, commissioned by Cabot Creamery to create an artful illustration of farm land, healing and healthful living
Portland, Maine (August 4, 2006) – On Friday, August 4, 2006, Cabot Creamery, best known to the world for its award-winning cheddars, will unveil a unique piece of Maine art intended to represent the company’s holistic view of healthful living, love of family and farming and a reverence for New England’s natural resources. Currently, there are 99 Cabot Creamery Cooperative family farms in Maine.

“We produced the Cabot Chakra Window because we wanted to communicate through an art piece another definition of what it takes to be healthy,” said Roberta MacDonald, Marketing Chief and Senior Vice President, Cabot Creamery. “One of the things this window was intended to do was to use the natural resources to complement what our farmers see and touch and smell all year long. It is a truly a celebration of who we are as a cooperative of family farms and what we do with our natural resources.”

Laura Fuller, Maine stain glass artist, was commissioned by the farmers of Cabot Creamery in September 2005 to create the Cabot Chakra Window. Well-known for her unusual works that combine traditional stain glass with three-dimensional objects, this is Fuller’s first piece that incorporates stones and gems within the glasswork.

Six feet tall, three feet wide, this one of a kind window is actually cheval glass – stain glass in combination with 55 gemstones – and is held within a handsome Vermont curly maple frame created specifically for the window by Beeken/Parson’s of Shelburne, Vermont. Once unveiled in Portland, the Cabot Chakra Window will be on display at the cooperative headquarters in Vermont and travel to Boston and Westchester.

“We will proudly showcase the Cabot Chakra Window at several fine furnishings shows throughout the Northeast to bring attention to Cabot, to our farmers and to our appreciation of the art of farming and healthy living,” said MacDonald.
