  Building Healthy Kids
Dairy foods are an essential part of children's diets for many reasons including building strong bones, healthy teeth and preventing childhood obesity. Encouraging dairy consumption and being a role model for your kids, can help form well-balanced eating habits for life.

In children ages 2-5, a diet rich in calcium and dairy foods was associated with lower body fat than diets with lower calcium and dairy foods intakes.

Healthy Teeth: To help reduce tooth decay, health professionals recommend eating cheese immediately after meals, or as a between-meal snack.  Cheddar Cheese has been demonstrated to reduce the risk of cavities by stimulating the flow of saliva, which has cavity reducing properties and neutralizes plaque acids.  Also, calcium is known to strengthen tooth enamel. Individuals who do not receive the recommended amount of calcium are nearly twice as likely to develop periodontal diseases later in life.

Building Strong Bones:
Take the Calcium Challenge
9 out of 10 girls and 7 out of 10 boys fail to meet the current calcium recommendations. Taking care of childrens’ bones is like contributing to a bank account at an early age. Enough calcium can be deposited and saved to help prevent osteoporosis later in life. By the age of 20 the average young person has acquired about 98% of his/her skeletal mass.
